Wayne Elwood Roberts, 92, passed away Monday, August 19, 2013, at his home in Newberg, Ore. of end-stage heart disease.

Wayne was born August 17, 1921 in Caldwell, Idaho. At age 6, he gave his life to Christ.

He served stateside in WWII, first in the Air Force and then in the Army, from 1942-1946.

In Indianola, Iowa on August 29, 1948 he married Bertie Stanley, and they moved to St. Louis, Mo. for medical school. In 1952, he joined the practice of Dr. Alvin Roberts, in Central Point, Ore., where he supported his wife and their five children in every way.

"Dr. Wayne" was chief of staff at what is now Rogue Regional Medical Center (1975-76); president of Jackson County Medical Society (1982); and a 30-year board member of George Fox University in Newberg, Ore. At Medford Friends Church, he was a beloved Bible teacher, singer, and elder. In 1991, he and Bertie retired to Newberg.

Wayne was preceded in death by Bertie in 2010 and their son Craig in 2003. He is survived by his second wife, Norma Alberthal; daughters, Andrea Herling, Priscilla Hochhalter, Cindi Hooker, and Sheila Hart; daughter-in-law, Cris Roberts; ten grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held Friday, August 23, 2013, at 3:00 p.m., at Newberg Friends Church, Newberg, Ore. Gifts may be made to George Fox University's Wayne and Bertie Roberts Memorial Scholarship, and online condolences to Attrell's Newberg Funeral Chapel, www.attrells.com.
