Our mother, our sister, our grandmother, our great-grandmother. our best friend.
Shirley May (Irwin) Cooley passed peacefully at home Friday, August 23, 2013 surrounded by her loved ones.
Shirley was born in Klamath Falls, Ore. June 26, 1936 to Robert and May Irwin. She grew up in Butte Falls, Ore. and graduated from Butte Falls High School in 1954, in a class of three.
She married her best friend, Keith Allen Cooley, May 9, 1959 in Klamath Falls, Ore. Their children Bret, Doug, and Peggy were all born in Klamath Falls.
The family moved to McCloud, Calif. where they lived for several years. In 1965 they moved to Shady Cove, Ore. where they kept a home for 35 years.
Shirley worked as a seamstress for Cascade Athletic in Medford, Ore. for almost 30 years before retiring in 2002. She loved life and shared that love with everyone around her. Shirley loved camping, dancing (on roller skates!), and crafts of all kinds. Dozens of family members and friends loved receiving her "wedding shadow boxes."
Shirley was active in Little League, Job's Daughters, and Eastern Star, but what she enjoyed the most in life were her many beloved pets, her family, her friends, and making her house a home. She was a very involved Mom and Grandma, and loved sending 'care packages' to those she held close to her heart. She never missed a birthday or an opportunity to send a card.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Patricia Irwin Mott.
She is survived by her husband, Keith; sister, Joyce Lindhorst (Don); sons, Paul Dryden (Karen), Bret (Kathi), and Doug; daughter, Peggy; grandchildren, Bryce, Kianna, Jenny, Matt, Erin, and Katie; and four great-grandchildren.
An interment at the Eagle Point National Cemetery in Eagle Point, Ore. will preceed the celebration at 3:00 p.m., Friday, September 13, 2013. A celebration of Shirley's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 14, 2013 at their home. Contact Peggy at 541-245-1766 or Bret at 425-446-0643 for more information.
