Medford police have identified the man suspected of stabbing a woman on Table Rock Road Sunday night.

Investigators are still looking for Jose Valencia-Gaona, 45, of 2400 block of West McAndrews Road, Medford, police said in a news release today. (Correction: Police sent out a new address. This story has been updated with the correct information.)

Police suspect he may still be in west Medford, where he is know by the street name "Pepe."

He is about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs around 180 pounds. He was last seen wearing a blue or turquoise shirt.

Investigators said he was waiting outside 38-year-old Maria Guadelupe Rodriguez's apartment in the 1900 block of Table Rock Road and confronted her when she got home around 8:30 p.m. Sunday.

They argued in Spanish, then scuffled and fell to the ground, where Rodriguez was apparently stabbed, police reported. The assailant even threatened neighbors with a knife when they tried to intervene. He then ran away, police said. She was pronounced dead of multiple stab wounds.

Police have flooded the neighborhood where Valencia-Gaona is believed to live, but he is still on the run, investigators said.
