  • Emory John Crofoot, 52, left us on Sunday, September 1, 2013, peacefully, with his family by his side. Emory was born December 22, 1960 in Portland, Ore., to Emory John Crofoot and Betty Nadine (Ingebritson) Crofoot and had an older sister, Mary.
Emory graduated from Wilson High School in 1979 and later moved to Ashland, Ore., where he graduated, in 1984, from Southern Oregon University with a degree in Criminology. Emory met and married his first wife, Julia, in 1987, later divorcing in 1991. Julia has remained a close friend of the family. Emory met his lifelong partner, Barbra, in 1998 and the two married in 2000.
Emory had a special place in his heart for the river and spent 15 years of his adult life as a river guide and continued to dabble in the profession. In 1998 he was hired on at Jackson County as a deputy sheriff.
Emory is survived by his wife, Barbra Usselman-Crofoot of Ashland, Ore.; daughters, Amelia and Tsaina; mother, Betty of Beaverton, Ore.; and pets, Matilda, Jilly-Boo Jones, and Rangle.
The service will be non-traditional, wake-style at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, September 5, 2013, in Ashland, Ore., at the lawn below Upper Duck Pond in Lithia Park. All who feel moved to come and celebrate Emory's life are encouraged to come and bring happy stories to share. This is an important event for his children, so families with friends of Amelia and Tsania are encouraged to bring their children and celebrate the life of a wonderful family man. Please contact Katie at (541) 292-1688 with questions.
Special thanks to Ashland Hospice, Dr. Susan Kohler, and Dr. Sylvia Chatroux. Emory lived life to the fullest each and every day and felt that his children were the most important part of his life.
