  • ROGUE RIVER — The eighth annual Patriot's Run to benefit the Rogue River High School Scholarship Fund and veterans will be held on Saturday, Sept. 7.
    Sponsored by the Rogue River Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4116 and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post, the motorcycle event will start at 410 E. Main St., Rogue River.
    The sign-up and a $5 buffet breakfast will run from 9 to 11 a.m. The cost is $15 per rider, with an additional amount for a passenger. A blessing of the bikes will be held at 10 a.m.
    The riders will leave on a poker run at 11 a.m. and head to Union Creek, with the last bikes returning at 2 p.m.
    The high poker hand will earn $250, and the low hand gets $100. Prizes are sponsored by the Cattlemens Saloon in Rogue River.
    Various activities will follow the poker run, including prize drawings, an auction, barbecue and an opportunity to win a real pig. Live music will begin at 2 p.m. with a performance by the Lavender Blue band. The music is sponsored by Boozefighters Chapter 45.
    The post will gather items for resident veterans at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs' Southern Oregon Rehabilitation Center and Clinic in White City.
    Items requested include toothpaste, stick deodorant, socks, undershirts, underwear (boxers and briefs), body powder, denture cream, shampoo, conditioner, combs, mouthwash, nail clippers, writing paper, pens, pencils, snacks, nuts, crackers, cookies and popcorn. All items must be nonalcoholic.
