  • Sue Goldman was born December 2, 1934 in Rock Island, Ill., to Ruth and Elmo Schmacht, the first of five children. She was physically active throughout her life, perhaps the fastest runner in her elementary school, then skiing, water skiing, especially hiking, and backpacking. Sue had a lovely voice and was a member of the award-winning Augustana College Choir and performed on the Ed Sullivan Show and in many concert halls. She earned a BA degree from Wichita State University, married Bill Broughton, a classmate, and raised three children Stacy, Tim, and Jay. The marriage ended in divorce and in 1987 she married Lou Goldman, a WSU professor.
