Jackson County sheriff's detectives arrested a Medford man on suspicion of stalking and raping a 14-year-old Phoenix girl last month.
Edgar Leonel Perez-Izara, 42, was arrested Monday at his home in the first block of Cottage Street, Medford. He remains in jail today without bail on charges of first- and third-degree rape, first-degree sexual assault, first-degree kidnapping, first-degree burglary and coercion. He is also suspected of being in the country illegally, officials said.
Investigators reported that Perez-Izara went to the girl's residence near Phoenix three weeks ago and found her home alone. After making threats to harm her, Perez-Izara sexually assaulted her, a sheriff's department news release said.
Investigators said they have evidence that Perez-Izara stalked the girl, whom he knew through family and church contacts, outside her home on several occasions prior to the day of the assault.
