  • Linda and Gary Gamble of Ashland celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a cruise with their whole family, 11 members, on the Coral Princess to Alaska from Aug. 14-21.
Gary Gamble married Linda Mandeville Aug. 17, 1963, in Fresno, Calif. They have three children: Steven Mandeville-Gamble of Riverside, Calif., Cindy O'Neill of Danville, Calif.; and Michael Gamble of Mukilteo, Wash., and four grandchildren.
They met at Fresno State University when Linda was a student majoring in ornamental horticulture and Gary was an instructor teaching agronomy. Their first home was in Bakersfield, Calif., where he became an agronomist for the J.G. Boswell Co. Their first son, Steven, was born there in 1965. In 1967, the family moved to Warren, NSW, Australia, when Gary became manager and developer of 15,000 acres for his company and taught the Australians how to grow cotton. Daughter Cindy was born in Warren in 1968, and son Michael was born in the nearby town of Narromine in 1970. After four years, Gary and Linda returned to Bakersfield, where Gary managed two farms for his company totaling 40,000 acres and Linda completed a B.S. degree in accounting. In 1980, Gary became vice president in charge of farming, and the family moved to Corcoran, Calif., where the company farms 200,000 irrigated acres of cotton, wheat, alfalfa for seed, safflower, tomatoes and other crops. In 1993, Gary became chief operating officer of his company, overseeing farming in California and Australia, cotton ginning, oil mills and planting seed sales. The couple retired to Ashland in 1997.
To celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary, Linda and Gary invited their entire family to join them on a cruise. This included son Steven, daughter Cindy O'Neill and her daughters, Ashley and Hayley, and son Michael his wife, Sara, and their sons, Kieran and Grant.
Additionally, Linda's anniversary gift to Gary was the surprise of having his sister, Gloria, join them on the cruise. The surprise occurred at Elliott's in Seattle the day before embarking on the ship.
