The huge inventory of gluten-free products at Sherm's Food 4 Less in Medford is what customers rave about, according to Mary Scriber, the store's assistant manager for natural foods.
"We have a great selection from alternative flours to prepared foods, and wide-variety even within categories such as breads and cookies," she says.
Scriber listed several notable gluten-free brands the store carries such as Amy's Kitchen, Namaste Foods, Pamela's and local company Silly Zak's. As for the gluten-free inventory, Scriber rattles off a long list: baking goods, milk alternatives, various flours, frozen foods, breads, pies, pizzas, sauces, pastas, granolas, protein powders, cereals and snack foods. The Sherm's staff attempt to mark gluten-free products with bright stickers, but there are so many products, they don't have enough stickers.
"We get a lot of 'wow' reactions from customers about the products and the size of our natural foods area," Scriber says. "If a customer comes in and asks for an item we don't have, we go out of our way to bring it into the store. If we don't have room on the shelves for it, we will special order for customers, letting them know if it is available and in the quantity they want."
