Dan and Lisa Allen opened Great Harvest Bread Company 15 years ago this November and it is still going strong. The bakery features a large menu of handmade breads, cookies, scones and sandwiches.

Inside the café at 203 Genessee Street in Medford, customers can view the milling room where the Great Harvest team grinds whole wheat to fresh flour daily.

Popular standards are the honey whole wheat and the five-seed Dakota breads, according to Lisa Allen. Specialty favorites include the Panza bread, made with kalamata olives, sundried tomatoes and Parmesan cheese. They also offer gluten-free breads two days a week, with a new gluten-free/dairy-free banana bread that customers like. Scones and muffins along with organic Noble coffee are also very popular with customers, who enjoy the café and patio area for a meeting and hang-out space. The warm and friendly atmosphere encourages people to relax and visit.

"Our success comes in large part because we value the relationship with our customers — they are like family," Lisa says. "Our customers eat our products because they represent a whole food, a good source of fiber, taste great and are made fresh daily."
