Local dispatchers graduate state public safety academy

The Oregon Public Safety Academy's 86th basic telecommunications class includes three graduates who work at Emergency Communications of Southern Oregon.

Dispatchers Jason Chapman, Brittany Farrer and Angela Rodgers will graduate with other dispatchers at an 11 a.m. ceremony Friday, Sept. 20, at the academy in Salem.

All dispatchers in the class underwent a two-week course on topics that include call-handling techniques, stress management, civil liability, ethics and criminal law.

Benefit walk for Parkinson's scheduled this Saturday

The fifth annual Sole Support for Parkinson's event will kick off with registration at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 21, at Hawthorne Park. One- and 5-kilometer walks will start at 1:30 p.m.

The annual walk helps provide funding for Parkinson's disease programs and support services in Southern Oregon.

The walking routes are wheelchair, walker and stroller friendly. There will be a community-partner fair, entertainment, a kids' zone and chances to win prizes.

Registration costs $20 per person 6 and older. Walkers 5 and younger are free. Register online at www.solesupport.org or call 800-426-6806.
