  • A Marine corporal from Eagle Point died in a training accident Monday at the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, Calif.
    Cpl. Nicholas Sell, 21, died when an amphibious assault vehicle caught fire in a training exercise on a battalion assault course, a Marine Corps news release said.
    The Associated Press reported the accident occurred shortly before 11:20 a.m. Monday at the center in the desert about 130 miles east of Los Angeles.
    Sell served in the 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 1st Marine Division. He deployed in support of Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. His personal awards include the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
    Sell enlisted in the Marine Corps on May 3, 2010.
    Four other Marines were injured in the accident. Three were treated and released Monday, while one was hospitalized, the AP reported.
    The cause of the incident remains under investigation, officials said in today's news release.
