Merlin man sought by police following shooting

Police are looking for a Merlin-area resident to get his account of a Friday-night shooting at a trailer park that injured one man.

Oregon State Police said they are looking for Dennis Allen Smith, 65, after a man was shot in the leg outside of Smith's manufactured home at 6160 Monument Drive.

Police responded to the shooting at 11:30 p.m. A preliminary investigation shows several men drove up to the trailer and got into an argument with Smith. During the conflict, at least one gunshot was fired, which struck 31-year-old Matthew Roy Barbosa.

Barbosa was taken to Asante Three Rivers Hospital in Grants Pass. By the time police arrived, everybody involved had already left the scene.

Anyone with information on Smith's whereabouts is asked to call OSP's Southern Command Center at 541-440-3333.
