ROCKLIN, Calif. — Toas Cadarette scored eight goals to go with four steals on the day for the Ashland boys water polo team, which beat Hoover 11-7 before losing by the same score to Ponderosa on the first day of the 24-team Wood Creek Classic.
Cadarette had five goals, two steals and an assist in the Grizzlies' tourney-opening win. He received plenty of help from teammates Cole Harding (two goals, two assists), Hoku Eggertsen (three assists, three steals, one goal) and goalie Ethan Croyle (four blocks).
Against Ponderosa, Ashland (2-1) was once again led by Cadarette, who scored three goals. Vincent Wright added seven blocks between the pipes for the Grizzlies, who will play at least two more matches today before heading home.
PROSPECT 3, GILCHRIST 0 — At Prospect, undefeated Prospect recorded 22 aces in a 25-15, 25-15, 25-9 Mountain Valley League match.
Senior setter Alee Pinkerton missed just one serve in 25 attempts with 14 aces and provided 10 assists for the Cougars (5-0, 3-0 MVL).
Prospect received 10 kills from Taylor Bernhardt and Halee Hedgepeth was 18 of 18 serving.
BUTTE FALLS 3, PAISLEY 2 — At Butte Falls, Butte Falls rallied to edge Paisley, 20-25, 25-19, 19-25, 25-20, 15-9, in Mountain Valley League action.
Shawna Creech led the Loggers (1-7, 1-2 MVL) in kills.
Butte Falls' Torri Lilly served seven straight points in the final set before Paisley rattled off a five-point run. Creech then got a crucial kill and Katie Munsell served out the rest of the match.
