May 3, 1923 - August 20, 2013

Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and wife Ruth Eidsvoog passed at the age of 90 Friday, August 20, 2013 at Providence Hospital in Medford, Ore., after a short illness. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Robert Bob Eidsvoog and brothers Luther and James Keay. She is survived by her beloved brother, Clint (Char) Keay; sisters-in-law, Betsy Eidsvoog and Sue (Norm) Storeygard. Cherished mother to Mark (Carole), Kris, and Paul (Becky) Eidsvoog; loving grandmother to Melissa Eidsvoog, David (Jakelen), Matt, and Amy Eidsvoog; and great-grandmother to Adelae and Halia Eidsvoog.

Ruth was born in Manly, Iowa to William J. and Valborg (Biorn) Keay, and raised in Logan, Iowa. She graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. with a teaching credential. She headed out to California to pursue a career in teaching, beginning in the Fresno area. It was there she met her future husband Bob. After marrying in 1949 and starting a family, they moved to Cupertino, Calif. She spent the majority of her twenty plus years as a dedicated history and English teacher, at Kennedy Junior High. It was also there that she and husband Bob helped found Bethel Lutheran Church, where they remained active members for many years. Following their retirement in 1988, Ruth and Bob settled in Medford.

Ruth was a vibrant woman with a passion for learning; a voracious reader with a penchant for mystery novels. She loved to travel in the U.S. and abroad, was a well-respected bridge player, and Sudoku lover. Her love of history and the English language extended beyond her career in academia, as she loved to visit museums and was a member of the AAUW (American Assn. of University Women). Ruth was a culinary master, and the consummate cook and hostess. In her early years she was a painter, a pottery maker, and pianist. Ruth was a devoted Christian woman, most recently a member of Ascension Lutheran Church. We will truly miss her wisdom, wit, devotion to family, and ability to always see the best in people.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Ascension Lutheran Church, 675 Black Oak Dr., Medford, Ore.

Ruth has been laid to rest alongside husband Bob at Siskiyou Memorial Park.
