Cougars suffer first defeat in volleyball

KLAMATH FALLS — Poor serving hurt the Prospect volleyball team in its first loss of the year.

Hosanna Christian downed the Cougars, 25-13, 25-22, 25-22, in Mountain Valley League action on Friday.

Baley VanWormer had five blocks and Julia Latona 18 digs for Prospect (6-1, 4-1 MVL), which missed nine serves on the night.

"They're good and we didn't play very well tonight," Prospect head coach Shelli Lass said. "It was one of those nights. We missed more serves than we have probably all season."

Hosanna Christian improved to 6-4 overall and 4-1 in the MVL.

GILCHRIST 3, BUTTE FALLS 1 — At Gilchrist, too many service misses and serve receive errors doomed Butte Falls in a 25-22, 25-21, 20-25, 25-21 MVL road loss.

Torri Lilly had six aces for the Loggers (1-9, 1-4 MVL) and junior middle Shawna Creech had two blocks.

ASHLAND SPLITS — At Roseville, Calif., Ashland beat Del Oro, Calif., 17-5 and lost to Linoln, Calif., 12-6, at the Woodcreek Tournament.

Against Del Oro, Sadie Kasiah had eight goals, three assists, three steals and one block and Sabrina Scoggin four goals, two assists and one steal for Ashland.

Maddy Longshore turned in three goals, one assist and one steal and Aubrie Georgevitch one goal, two assists and one steal. Goalkeeper Kaya Boehm made seven blocks.

Against Lincoln, Kasiah had two goals, two steals and one assist, Georgevitch one goal and three steals and Longshore one goal and one assist.

Scoggin added one goal and two steals and Leilani Sukles one goal. Boehm made six blocks.
