Body found in Medford irrigation ditch Sunday

A man's body was found floating in a Medford irrigation ditch late Sunday.

Medford police reported the body was found in a ditch at about 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of Lynn Street and Gore Avenue, behind the Sierra Pine lumber mill. Cpl. Ernie Whiteman said a passerby spotted the body and called 911.

The man's name is not being released yet, as family members have not been notified of the death. Police officials said they have had contact with the man in the past, and that he is known to law enforcement.

The cause of the fall is still under investigation, but police said it doesn't appear the man was pushed.

"It doesn't appear to be anything suspicious at this time," Whiteman said.

We'll update this story as more information becomes available.
