  • NEWBERG — The Ashland water polo team lost its first two games in the Newberg Invitational over the weekend, but earned victories in its final pair, the last thanks to the overtime heroics of Taos Cadarette-Stewart.
    Cadarette-Stewart scored the winning goal in sudden death of a match against Parkrose High. The senior finished with six goals, four blocks and three steals. Nathan Markovich scored one goal and added two assists and a couple of steals.
    Ashland dealt Wilson of Tacoma, Wash., a 15-8 defeat in its third contest of the weekend. Jordan Renteria scored twice while Tristan Gavin recorded one goal, two assists and two steals.
    Cadarette-Stewart tallied five goals in West Albany's 11-6 victory, and in a 17-7 loss to host Newberg, Ashland's Hoku Eggertsen registered three goals and two steals with Cole Harding adding two goals.
