Britt Festivals and South Stage Cellars are accepting applications for the third annual Rising Stars competition. Local musicians can compete for prizes that include an opening slot on the Britt main stage, a live show on Jefferson Public Radio and other prizes.
The competition is open to acts consisting of one to four people that can play a range of jazz, folk, blues, country, R&B, bluegrass, flamenco, classical and other genres.
Interested musicians can email video and photo links to email@example.com or by messaging South Stage Cellars on Facebook. Applications also can be picked up at South Stage Cellars, 125 S. Third St., Jacksonville. Deadline is Nov. 15.
Twelve acts will be selected to perform weekend shows at South Stage Cellars' tasting room, beginning Feb. 1. Audiences can vote for their favorite musician for $2 per vote at the shows.
The final rounds will be held March 1 at the Britt Pavilion, and the winner will be chosen by a combination of audience votes and a panel of judges.
Proceeds from audience votes will benefit Britt Festivals' music education programs in local schools. Past Rising Stars competitions have raised more than $20,000 for local nonprofit organizations.
