  • Owners of small businesses and potential entrepreneurs can find free materials, resources and support at the 11th annual Rogue Valley Business Resource Fair, Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Higher Education Center in downtown Medford.
    One-hour seminars will cover smart hiring, social media and marketing on a shoestring. Attendees can learn how to create a business plan, conduct operations on the Internet and perfect a 30-second sales pitch.
    In addition to the educational seminars, representatives from more than 25 industry associations, government agencies and nonprofit organizations will be available.
    The event runs 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 101 S. Bartlett St. Admission is free and lunch is provided. For information, go to www.sou.edu/bizfair or call Kathleen Johnson at 541-552-8300.
    JACKSONVILLE — The October Jefferson Grapevine at Bigham Knoll Event Center features panelists Josef Shapiro, coach and training manager for EMyth; John Bowling, managing partner of Sustainable Leadership Consultants; and Pete Newport, former Breedlove Guitars chief executive and present president of Sawyer Paddles.
    The educational series will be facilitated by Oregon Entrepreneur Network regional director John Lamy of Lamy Consulting.
    The discussion runs from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16. The cost is $10. The social time follows at 5-7:30 p.m. at a cost of $20.

    A Medford dentist received distinguished mentor status from the Kois Center in Seattle last month.
    Michael R. Boldt completed a nine-course dental education curriculum, written examination and clinical skills assessment.
    The designation will allow him to train other dentists seeking additional dental education credentials. Boldt has practiced in Medford for 27 years after graduating from the Oregon Health and Science University School of Dentistry.
