Author Cornel West speaks in Ashland

Author and political analyst Cornel West will speak at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, at the Southern Oregon University Music Recital Hall in Ashland.

West is the author of such books as "Race Matters," "Democracy Matters" and his memoir, "Brother West: Living and Loving Out Loud." He also recently co-wrote a book with PBS's Tavis Smiley, "The Rich and the Rest of Us: A Poverty Manifesto."

West has made TV appearances on "The Colbert Report," "Real Time With Ball Maher," CNN and C-SPAN, and has appeared in more than 25 documentaries and films.

His Ashland appearance is co-hosted by Southern Oregon University and Rogue Community College.

Tickets for the event cost $30 for the general public, but admission is free for SOU students and staff. Seating is limited. Tickets can be purchased at the information desk in SOU's Stevenson Union.
