  • EUGENE — When Eagle Point wanted to run time off the clock, Seth Arena just wanted to run.
Attempting to protect a lead over Willamette in Midwestern League football Thursday night, the Eagles called a couple fourth-quarter running plays for Arena that resulted in touchdown jaunts of 93 and 59 yards.
The latter sealed Eagle Point's 56-35 victory and evened its record at 2-2 in the MWL. The Eagles are 4-3 overall.
Arena, a senior, gained 276 yards on 21 carries to lead the Eagles to their third straight victory. He also scored on runs of 7 and 2 yards and caught a 27-yard touchdown pass from Jorge Quintero, giving him five scores for the game.
"He's just been really dialed in the last couple weeks," said Eagles coach Seth Womack. "He's really picked it up in every aspect. He's been good on defense, really good on offense. He's just a competitor. He wants to win and help his team win."
Eagle Point led 42-28 in the fourth quarter and had the ball at is own 7 when Quintero handed off to Arena, who took it 93 yards for a touchdown.
After Willamette (2-5, 1-4) answered with a 36-yard touchdown pass, Arena was at it again, busting it up the middle on the 59-yarder.
As big as those plays were, none were bigger than an interception return for a touchdown by Austin Holmes for Eagle Point's first score.
Willamette jumped out to a 14-0 lead and had possession. It attempted a screen pass, but Holmes read it perfectly and made the play of the night.
Quintero scored on a 1-yard run late in the first quarter, then ran in the two-point conversion for a 15-14 lead.
Eagle Point's Lucas Morris returned a kickoff 73 yards for a touchdown before halftime to make it 29-20.
