High-speed, head-on crash injures two

Collision blocks traffic at Stewart, Riverside avenues in south Medford

Two men were seriously injured in a high-speed head-on collision Monday night involving two vehicles at Riverside and Stewart avenues in south Medford.

The crash occurred at 7:37 p.m. when a silver Honda sedan traveling north on Riverside Avenue at what witnesses said was a high rate of speed jumped the median, according to the Medford Police Department. It then crashed head-on with a blue Scion sedan headed south on Riverside Avenue, police said.

Both vehicles came to rest on the right southbound lane of Riverside Avenue and in the corner of a car lot there.

Both drivers were unconscious when police and firefighters arrived at the scene, and the driver of the silver sedan had to be cut out of the wreckage, Medford police Sgt. D.J. Graham said at the scene.

No other victims were involved in the wreck.

Both men were rushed by ambulance to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center for treatment, and there was no immediate word on their status or identities, Graham said.

Southbound traffic was blocked for about 20 minutes while firefighters and police worked to free the victims. Both northbound and southbound traffic was then delayed for several minutes until emergency vehicles left the scene.
