    OIT's Dixon named preseason's top player

    Ex-North Medford standout led Owls in scoring last season

  • Former North Medford standout Karissa Dixon, a senior at Oregon Tech, has been voted the 2013-14 Cascade Collegiate Conference preseason player of the year in women's basketball.
    The vote was made by the 10 conference coaches.
    Southern Oregon had two selections. The Raiders are led by senior guard Allison Gida and sophomore forward Carly Meister, last year's co-freshman of the year.
    Dixon, a 5-foot-10 guard, is a two-time all-conference selection, She headlines a 15-person all-star team that features 12 returnees and three newcomers.
    Dixon led OIT in scoring at 13.9 points per game and was second on the team in steals (40), rebounds (6.6) and assists (88).
    She returns to lead an Oregon Tech team that finished third last year with a 13-5 CCC record. The Owls advanced through the quarterfinal round before being eliminated in the semifinal game. OIT returns four starters.
    Gida, from Ashland, averaged 12.7 points and 4.7 rebounds last season. Meister, from Elma, Wash., averaged 5.6 points and 7.9 rebounds.
