Sylvia S. Archer, 81, went home to be with our Lord September 26, 2013. She was born April 20, 1932 in New York, N.Y. Her parents, Jerry and Sylvia Smith, worked at Roosevelt Field, now JFK Airport, flying and barnstorming. The Great Depression caused them to return to the Rogue Valley.

Sid grew up and attended Medford schools and went on to earn her degree in teaching SOU. After years of teaching throughout Oregon and California, she returned home and earned her master's degree from SOU. She continued to substitute and was a member of AAUW.

She is survived by her sister, Jeri Gormely of Springfield, Va.; daughters, Sandra Pfeil of Medford, Ore. and Janet Hamlin of Hillsboro, Ore.; and six grandchildren.

A celebration of her life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, October 19, 2013, at Rogue Valley Fellowship, 2399 S. Pacific Hwy., Medford, OR.
