CORVALLIS — Baseball America has ranked the 2013 Oregon State recruiting class as the fifth best in the country, it was announced on Tuesday. The class is currently on campus.
The Beavers have their sixth top 25 class since the team's 2006 national title, and it's the third time Oregon State has been ranked in the top 10.
Oregon State has four players who have spurned MLB Draft selections and who are currently on campus: right-handed pitchers Jake Thompson (34th round, Chicago Cubs) and Chandler Eden (36th round, Miami), infielder Trever Morrison (38th round, Boston) and 2011 selection Michael Howard (21st round, Minnesota).
Howard, who is listed as both a pitcher and outfielder, comes into the program as a transfer from Yavapai Junior College.
The Beavers are the highest ranked Pac-12 Conference club on the list.
Eden ranked 70th on the list of 2013 draft-eligible players (including college) by Baseball America, while Morrison was ranked 139th.
Other players listed by Baseball America include catcher Logan Ice, infielders Billy King and Tyler Mildenberg, utility player Dan James and right-handed pitchers Kevin Flemer and John Pomeroy.
The Beavers scrimmage for the final time this fall on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Goss Stadium. It is open to the public.
