  • The search is on to find candidates to fill 15 seats on commissions, boards and committees that help run the city of Medford.
    Residents with an interest in the arts, cycling, law enforcement and other governmental activities are encouraged to contact the city manager's office at 541-774-2000.
    Residency within the city is a requirement for serving on boards and commissions.
    Application forms are available in the city manager's office, Room 310 at City Hall, as well as on the city website at www.ci.medford.or.us.
    Many of the commissions meet monthly, but some may meet less or more often.
    Applications will be taken until Oct. 31.
    Three full-term positions and one partial-term position are available on the Arts Commission, which meets monthly to discuss selection, acquisition, restoration and maintenance of public art. The commission advises City Council on arts promotion and other activities.
    Three full-term positions are available on the Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee, which acts in an advisory capacity to the council.
    The city Budget Committee is looking to fill two full-term positions. The committee forwards recommendations to the council regarding the city's budget.
    Three full-term positions are being filled on the Cemetery Commission, which looks at the funding and operation of Eastwood Cemetery.
    The Housing Commission is looking for three full-term members. The commission advises the council on housing matters.
    Two full-term positions are open on the Landmarks and Historic Preservation Commission, which reviews and investigates buildings and structures of historical significance.
    The Multicultural Commission, which has two full-term positions available, meets to discuss economic, social and cultural issues with Medford's growing multicultural community.
    Four full-term positions are available on the Parking Commission, which looks at parking issues in the downtown.
    The Parks and Recreation Commission, searching for three full-term members, acts in an advisory capacity with the council.
    Two full-term positions are available on the Planning Commission, which discusses zoning, growth and development issues, providing recommendations to the council.
    Four openings are available on the Police Advisory Committee. Committee members are needed from Ward 1 and Ward 3, as well as from the Medford School District and a member representing the faith-based community. The committee explores community issues and addresses unresolved police complaints.
    The Site Plan and Architectural Commission needs two full-term members and one partial-term commissioner to review architecture, landscaping, signs and other development issues.
    Five full-term positions are available on the Unified Appeal Board, which looks at building issues related to Uniform Building Codes and the plumbing, electrical and mechanical codes. The five positions will include a licensed general contractor, licensed engineer, licensed architect, member of the business community, and a representative of the public.
    The Urban Renewal Agency Budget Committee is looking for five full-term members.
    One position is available on the Water Commission, which maintains, manages and operates the city's water system.
