Ashland's Koerner captures 100-mile race in Arizona

Ashland's Hal Koerner won the Javelina Jundred, a 100-mile ultra marathon in Fountain Hills, Ariz., Sunday.

His time was 14 hours, 56 minutes. It's the second time in three years he captured the race. He won in 13:47 two years ago and was runner-up last year.

Another local runner, 77-year-old Peter Fish of Gold Hill, finished the 100-kilometer version of the race in 26:23:17.


Tickets for North Medford football playoff on sale

Playoff tickets for North Medford's Nov. 8 home state playoff football game are on sale at www.northmedfordtickets.com or at the North Medford activities office during school hours.

The opponent won't be known until after play-in games this week.

Season ticket holder seats will be held for purchase until midnight Nov. 5. Any unclaimed seats will be available to the public. Tickets are $4 students, $7 general admission, $9 reserved and $15 skybox. Student and staff passes are not valid.


Scenic first, Ashland secondin boys state cross country

The Scenic (Central Point) boys cross country team edged Ashland for the title in the middle school state championships last weekend at Fernhill Park in Portland. Scenic scored 69 points to 74 for runner-up Ashland.

Ashland's Ian Rinefort was second in the 3,000-meter race in 9:55.09. Scenic's Derek Tripp (9:55.37) and Andy Monroe (10:02.75) were third and fifth.

In the girls race, Ashland placed fourth.


Youth baseball group receives gift from Pacific Power

Pacific Power Foundation has donated $4,000 to the Medford Youth Baseball Society to help finance the seat expansion project at Harry & David Field.

The Medford Youth Baseball Society is a nonprofit organization dedicated to raising funds to improve Harry & David Field, which opened in 2006. It's located at 2929 S. Pacific Highway in Medford.
