EUGENE — Shelby DeRocher provided the offensive punch for Grants Pass in a 2-1 victory against South Eugene in a Class 6A girls soccer play-in game Tuesday.
The Cavers (3-8-2) advance to the first-round of the state playoffs on Saturday.
DeRocher, a senior forward, tallied both goals for Grants Pass.
South Eugene (2-13) scored on a long throw-in four minutes into the contest to take the initial lead.
DeRocher tied the game with a goal in the 16th minute, then put in the game-winner 14 minutes later from about 10 yards out. Andrea Theriau assisted on both goals.
South Eugene received a red card in the 35th minute and had to play with 10 players the rest of the game.
Grants Pass was on the attack throughout the second half but could not convert off a scrappy South Eugene defense.
Grants Pass midfielders Amanda Solar and Haley Hogue helped the Cavers control possession and Camille Ward did a good job organizing the defense.
MCMINNVILLE 5, CRATER 0 — McMinnville, Crater got solid play from sophomore goalie Alycea Jones but dropped the state play-in contest.
The Comets finished the season with a 1-13 overall record.
KLAMATH UNION 5, NORTH VALLEY 1 — At Klamath Falls, Klamath Union scored four second-half goals to clinch a tie for the Skyline Conference champion with local rival Henley.
Tori Dykstra scored two goals and Jessica Bocchi had a goal and an assist for the Pelicans (10-3-1, 8-2 Sky).
Klamath Union led 1-0 at halftime on Dykstra's goal in the second minute.
Venessa D'Arpino accounted for the North Valley score on an unassisted goal in the 54th minute.
Klamath Union outshot the Knights (9-4-1, 7-3), 15-9.
SHELDON 8, CRATER 1 — At Eugene, Sheldon built a 7-0 halftime lead in the state play-in game.
The lone goal by the Comets (0-14) was a 48-yard howitzer off the foot of Norberto Estrada into the upper V in the 65th minute.
Crater's Erix Jensen and Agustin Ruvalcaba played well defensively for the Crater.
KLAMATH UNION 1, NORTH VALLEY 0 — At Merlin, despite the loss in the regular-season finale, North Valley stays in third place in the Skyline Conference and will play a state play-in game later this week.
Jose Meza of Klamath Union (4-9-1, 3-7 Sky) sunk the Knights (7-5-1, 5-5 Sky) with a score in the 26th minute.
CRESCENT VALLEY 3, ASHLAND 2 — At Corvallis, Crescent Valley ended Ashland's season with a five-set win in a Class 5A play-in match. The score was unavailable at press time.
Ashland finishes 6-15 overall.
