    FIRST FRIDAY art walk offers up some interesting exhibits this month, so skedaddle to Ashland after work tonight for art, wine, hors d'oeuvres and music at selected galleries from 5 to 8 p.m. Ashland Art Center, 357 E. Main St., is showcasing ceramics made by special-needs students in the Enrichment Program; and Ashland Painters Union, 71/2; N. Main St., No. 2, offers a group show titled, "Landscapes of the Mind: Worlds Real and Imagined."

    CANDY FOR CASH: Trick-or treaters, wouldn't you much rather have cold cash than a bellyache for all that candy you collected last night? Central Point dentist Dr. Judd Larson is offering to buy back kids' Halloween treats from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at 57 N. Second St., Central Point. He'll pay $1 per pound, then ship the collected treats to troops overseas through the Operation Gratitude program. Candy must be unopened. Can't make it today? He's doing it again from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday.

    IF YOU LOVE DOGS, and who doesn't, head to The Expo at 8 a.m. Saturday for the Southern Oregon Kennel Club's AKC All-Breed Dog Show in the Compton and Olsrud arenas. The only dogs allowed in the building are ones registered for the show, but humans are invited to watch for free. About 500 dogs in seven groups — hounds, working, herding, toys, terriers, sporting and nonsporting — will compete in the event, which continues Sunday. Judges will award prizes for Best of Breed, Best in Group and Best in Show both days. For more information, call 541-821-6015.
