Spartans fall to Lake Tahoe, remain winless

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. — Southern Oregon's Trevor Hillman scored on a power polay to tie the game in the second period, but Lake Tahoe tallied the next three goals to keep the Spartans winless with a 4-1 victory Friday at the South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena.

Miguel Caron scored the tie-breaking goal with 15 seconds to go in the second period, and teammates Martin Vachal and Kyle Blondin added two more goals in the third to help Lake Tahoe pull away. Blondin also had two assists.

Southern Oregon fell to 0-8 despite out-shooting the Blue 44-40. The Spartans were just 1-for-6 on power plays and couldn't connect despite firing off 17 shots in the final frame.

Southern Oregon goalie Jiri Ponikesky had 36 saves.

The Spartans face Lake Tahoe (7-7) again tonight and Sunday.
