  • A 41-year-old man was arraigned this afternoon on a murder charge stemming from the Friday morning shooting death of a woman in a rural Gold Hill home.
Robert Joseph Simonson pleaded not guilty to a single murder count in connection with the slaying of Kimberly Ann Staack, 52.
Jackson County Circuit Court Judge Kelly Ravassipour ordered Simonson held without bail at the Jackson County Jail. He appeared at this afternoon's hearing via video conferencing from the jail.
At about 6:30 a.m. Friday, Jackson County sheriff's deputies were called to a residence in the 1500 block of Rogue River Highway by the report of a shooting, and they found Staack shot there, police said. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Authorities said Simonson fired a single shot that killed Staack. Deputies said the pair were acquaintances who lived a transient lifestyle.
Simonson was ordered back in court for a Nov. 12 preliminary hearing.
