  • Medford police are looking for a car thief who crashed a stolen Mercedes this morning near the intersection of Hillcrest Road and South Modoc Avenue.
A silver 2005 Mercedes was reported stolen near Hillcourt Street and North Keene Way Drive at about 6:55 a.m., said Medford police Cpl. Chris Dode.
A short time later, a Medford police officer spotted the vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the driver was able to elude pursuit. The officer found the vehicle crashed a short distance away but could not locate the driver.
Police quickly established a perimeter and tried to find the suspect, but as of 9:45 a.m., the driver had not been located, Dode said.
Just one person was seen in the stolen vehicle, according to the reporting officer. Police do not know what caused the crash, but the stolen car may have collided with another vehicle, Dode said.
So far no witnesses to the crash have been found, and no other drivers have reported being involved in an accident with the Mercedes, Dode said.
