  • Longtime Rogue Valley Resident, Bettie Love Buonocore, widow of Medford physician Lawrence W. Buonocore, closed the curtain on her life Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at the age of 91 at Asante Medford Medical Center. Bettie was born in Minneapolis, Minn. April 23, 1922 to Ethel Gottlieb and Lewis Silverman.
Bettie attended UC Berkeley and Southern Oregon University. She spent most of her life as a community leader, volunteering with the Oregon Shakespeare festival, various performing arts, the local medical community, Southern Oregon University, and numerous social and philanthropic clubs. Her zest for knowledge kept her vibrant and interested in everything around her. For those who knew Bettie, you will understand that she is already in the middle of a game with Charles Goren, gently suggesting to him what to play.
Bettie is survived by her three daughters, Laurie Beth Stackhouse of Sacramento, Calif., Madelyn (Larry) Gordon of Northridge, Calif., and Alecia (Stefan) Elvstad of Birch Bay, Wash.; stepchildren, Richard (Annette) Bunocore of Upper Peninsula, Mich. and Carol Cross of Pensacola, Fla.; grandchildren, Alyssa Compton, Rob Stackhouse, Rachel Rickson, and Sarah Pearson; and eight great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to one of her charitable organizations: CATS, the National Library Service's Talking Books, or Grandparents As Parents.
