Allred advances at q-school

McKINNEY, TEXAS — Ashland native Jason Allred birdied his last two holes to wrap up a 5-under par 67 and qualify for the third and final stage of the Tour q-school Friday at TPC Craig Ranch.

Allred's clutch performance — he shot an 8-under 280 in the four-round event — guarantees the Scottsdale, Ariz., resident conditional status on the Tour, which is the only pathway to the PGA Tour.

Allred shot even par through the first eight holes before heating up, making five birdies the rest of the way.

The q-school finals will be held Dec. 12-17 at PGA West.

Allred was fresh off a playoff victory the previous week over former PGA player Brock Mackenzie in the All-American Gateway Tour at Quintero Golf Club in Peoria, Ariz. There, Allred fired a 4-under 32 on the back nine in the final round to make up a six-shot deficit and force a playoff, where he birdied 18 to claim the $11,000 first-place prize.
