FACING CHANGE: Buddhist teacher Barbara Casey, a recently recovered cancer patient, will lead a talk on "Fear and thanksgiving" from 3:30 to 5:15 p.m. at the UCC Congregational Church, 717 Siskiyou Blvd. The interactive workshop will provide tools to handle fear when facing major change. BEING HERE NOW: Community Counseling Center of Ashland holds a mindfulness practice group from noon to 1 p.m. Thursdays at 600 Siskiyou Blvd. The group focuses on paying attention to the present moment without judgment. HIKING AUTHOR: Luke Ruediger will discuss the natural and cultural history of the Red Buttes Wilderness at a meeting of the Native Plant Society. The talk will start at 7 p.m. at the Southern Oregon University Science Building, Room 171, 1250 Siskiyou Blvd., Ashland. Ruediger is author of "Siskiyou Crest Hikes, History and Ecology." Refreshments will be served at 6:45 p.m.
