  • Lois Amelia Stanley, 88, of Eagle Point, Ore. passed away Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center.
    Lois was born April 13, 1925 in Burbank, Calif. to Ray and Mollie (Koch) Simon. She was the oldest of five children. Her family moved from California to Ohio on 1931 to be near family and to farm. As she was growing up she enjoyed working with her dad on the farm.
    Lois graduated from Liberty Benton High school in Finley, Ohio in 1943. She was then accepted to Nurse's Training at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Mich. and graduated in 1946 specializing in obstetrics. She did post graduate work in 1947 in New York City at New York Hospital.
    Her parents moved to the Rogue Valley in 1948 where they owned and operated a very successful strawberry farm. Lois came to Medford for six months to work at the Community Hospital and then returned to Columbus, Ohio for two and a half years to work at the White Cross Hospital as head nurse in obstetrics.
    After returning to the Rogue Valley in July of 1951, she married Darrel Stanley from Eagle Point, Ore. March 18, 1952. They had two children and owned and operated a cattle and hay ranch in the Eagle Point area. Lois was a homemaker who was active in the PTA, Antelope Sunday School, and Eagle Point Community Bible Church. Over the course of 20 years, she was church camp nurse at Lake of the Woods, Camp 2, and Fir Point Bible Conference. She enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking, sewing, and traveling.
    Lois is survived by her brother, Ralph Simon of Chino, Calif.; son, Eugene (Connie) Stanley of Eagle Point, Ore.; daughter, Susan (Jeff) Kendle of Medford, Ore.; grandchild, Jennifer (Jeremy) Kennedy; and great-grandchild, Callan Kennedy of Eagle Point, Ore.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Darrel Stanley; brother, George and John Simon; sister, Ruth Dam; and niece, Margaret Dam.
    A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Eagle Point Community Bible Church, 27 S. Shasta, Eagle Point, OR.
