Dance benefit will help typhoon victims

The Ashland dance community is holding a dance benefit from 8 to 10 p.m. this evening. All proceeds will be donated to Project HOPE's disaster relief fund and used to bring aid to the 13 million people affected by Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

The event, which asks for a $15-$20 donation, will feature an improvised dance piece by Dancing People Company, Ashland's professional dance company. There will also be a mix of music played for attendees to dance to.

Project HOPE has deployed U.S. volunteer medical specialists to the Philippines, where they are aiding in disaster relief caused by Typhoon Haiyan. An additional 30 volunteers are deploying to the Philippines at the end of the week. Donations will go toward medicines, generators, First Aid kits, and surgical equipment. The organization has raised more than $1.5 million so far.

The benefit will be held at 280 E. Hersey St., No. 10, Ashland. For more information on the event call (541) 621-7663.
