Born "Bobby Lee" Gaines in Odessa, Texas. His parents, Ernest and Billie, moved their family to Medford, Oregon when he was three. At Medford High he was known as Red, on Student Council, played football and was the number one pitcher for the baseball team.

After high school, he enlisted in USAF during the Korean War. Using his GI bill, he obtained a B.S. in Education and a teaching credential from Southern Oregon College. He met and married his wife of 53 years, Patricia June Bottjer in 1953. Bob moved his young family to Orange County, Calif. where he taught History and English in the Garden Grove School District. Bob continued his education by earning a MA in Counseling and a Marriage Family Counseling License. The family has lived in Sacramento Region since 1967. After 33 years in education, he retired in 1990 from the Sacramento City Unified School District as Head Psychologist.

As a 46-year member of Sunset Whitney Country Club where he spent many days enjoying golf, he will be greatly missed by many lifelong friends. His sudden passing leaves a void in our hearts.

He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia; daughter, Cheryl; sisters, Dorothy Dutkiewicz and Doris Beasley; and brothers, William and Ernest. He is survived by his brother, Jimmy; son, Steven; daughters, Sandra (Ron) Stout and Kathryn (Quan) Gaines-Le; sister in-law, Bobbie (Robert) Fasel; granddaughters, Patricia and Mary Miller; and great-granddaughter, Samantha.

A memorial will be held at 10:30 a.m. December 6, 2013 at Lambert Funeral Home, 400 Douglas Blvd, Roseville, CA, 95673.
