  • This morning's low temperature of 15 degrees clobbered a record for a Dec. 5 low temperature in Medford, set in 1972, the National Weather Service reported.
On that day, temperatures dropped to about 18 degrees. Ashland and the Siskiyou Summit both reported 12-degree temperatures this morning.
It's expected to be even colder the morning of Sunday, Dec. 8, when weather officials say the low temperature will drop to about 9 degrees in Medford.
The all-time record for that day — minus 6 degrees, also set in 1972 — will remain unchallenged, however.
Snow is expected to join the cold air this weekend. The National Weather Service issued a winter storm warning, in effect from 4 a.m. Friday through 4 a.m. Saturday. Snow is expected on the valley floor, with amounts up to three inches expected. Higher elevations may see as much as 10 inches.
