A holiday concert with the Rogue Valley Symphony

Conductor Martin Majkut and the symphony will present a program that includes Handel's Concerto Grosso, Op. 6, No. 12 with Majkut on harpsichord; Copland's Clarinet Concerto with Gwen Hutchings playing solo clarinet; and Mozart's Adagio & Fugue for strings.

"During the baroque era, works like Handel's Concerto Grosso were not directed by a conductor," Majkut says. "They were performed and directed by someone playing the harpsichord. For these concerts, we're trying to offer works that are well-suited for the holidays, interspersed with carols. We'll conclude the concerts with famous carols and a sing-along."

Performances are set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, at Newman United Methodist Church, 132 N.E. B St., Grants Pass; 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at First United Methodist Church, 175 N. Main St., Ashland; and 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 13-14, at First Presbyterian Church, 85 S. Holly St., Medford.

Tickets cost $28, $5 for students, and can be purchased online at www.rvsymphony.org or by calling 541-552-6398.
