Medford City Hall was evacuated Thursday afternoon following a bomb threat, but it was a prank, authorities said.
The building was evacuated after a male caller made the threat to City Hall at 1:25 p.m. Everybody was let back inside about an hour later, Medford police Lt. Mike Budreau said.
"Nothing was found and we think this was a prank," Budreau said. "We did evacuate just staff and police conducted the search. Had we found a suspicious device, we would have certainly evacuated the officers and called in the bomb squad."
During the sweep, police also blocked off a parking lot on the south side of City Hall.
"It's a crime to call in a bomb threat ... it substantially disrupted the business of City Hall," Budreau said. "We are certainly looking to identify this individual."
If caught, the caller likely would be charged with disorderly conduct, he said.
Police are asking anyone with information regarding the incident to call 541-770-4784.
