  • Erickson Air-Crane said Monday it has won its first firefighting contract in Turkey, opening the door to an important Mideast market.
Erickson, whose major manufacturing, maintenance and parts facility is outside Central Point, was awarded a 10-month contract to provide firefighting services to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality.
Erickson has long used its heavy-lift S-64 Aircrane helicopters to fight fires in Australia and Greece, as well as the United States. The company, now based in Portland, will partner with Turkish aviation firm Pan Aviation.
The contract guarantees 500 flight hours. Erickson will provide one S-64 Aircrane equipped with a 2,650-gallon fire suppression system and a detachable water tank with multiple refill options.
