  • John Nilsen Christmas concerts: Pianist John Nilsen will perform his third annual Christmas concert series today through Friday, Dec. 17-20, at several venues in the Rogue Valley.
    Nilsen, a Portland native who has sold more than 1 million recordings during his 30-year music career, will play solo piano arrangements of classic Christmas carols, original compositions and some musical surprises, with a more casual show planned on Dec. 20 at Roxy Ann Winery.
    At 6:30 tonight, he will play a free show at Upper Rogue United Methodist Church, 18977 Highway 62, Shady Cove, (541-878-2793).
    At 7 p.m. Wednesday, he will play at Newman United Methodist Church, 132 NE B St., in Grants Pass (541-479-5369). Tickets cost $15 at the door.
    At 7 p.m. Thursday, he will play at First United Methodist Church of Ashland, 175 N. Main St. (541-482-3647). Tickets cost $15 at the door.
    At 6 p.m. Friday, he will appear at RoxyAnn Winery, 3285 Hillcrest Road, in Medford (541-776-2315). Admission is free.

    Interfaith workshop on death and dying: Rabbi David Zaslow of the Havurah will lead "Death & Dying: An Interfaith Learning Experience" in six sessions from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, Nov. 14, Dec. 19, Feb. 20, March 13, April 24 and May 22. at 185 N.
