  • ASHLAND — David Sturner hasn't slowed down for the second-ranked Southern Oregon University basketball team, and the Cascade Conference hasn't stopped showing love.
Sturner is the CCC's men's basketball player of the week for the second time in December, the conference office announced Monday.
In a performance Saturday that was more routine than extraordinary, the senior registered 24 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks, three steals and three assists to help the Raiders (12-1 overall) eke out a 93-92 win over No. 23 Cal Maritime.
In going 9-for-13 from the field, Sturner buried the go-ahead 3-pointer with seven minutes remaining, and with just over a minute left made consecutive buckets to seal SOU's 10th straight win.
Sturner, a 6-foot-8 center, ranks sixth in the NAIA in rebounds per game (10.6) and 16th in field-goal percentage (61.0). He also shoots 46.7 percent from 3-point range to average 16.8 points.
The double-double against the Keelhaulers was his ninth of the season and sixth in SOU's last seven games. He's gone for 20-plus points and 10-plus rebounds four times.
SOU's big men have hogged the conference's last three weekly honors. Eric Thompson won last week and Sturner was picked on Dec. 2.
The Raiders are on the road Friday and Saturday for key CCC tilts at Eastern Oregon and College of Idaho.
