Free guided hikes of two state parks offered New Years Day

The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department will host free guided hikes at parks across Oregon New Year's Day, including Valley of the Rogue State Park and TouVelle State Park, both along the Rogue River.

The Valley of the Rogue hike will be from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, Jan. 1. The two-mile path along the Rogue River is a mixture of pavement and gravel with a slight gain in elevation.

The TouVelle hike starts at 11 a.m. at Picnic Area A. Rangers will lead the one-mile hike on interpretive trails and talk about wildlife that lives in the park. The usual $5 day-use parking fee will be waived.

Hikers should dress in layers, bring sturdy shoes and come prepared with water, snacks, and a camera or binoculars for wildlife viewing.

Call 541-582-3128 for Valley of the Rogue hike information. Call 541-660-7344 for TouVelle hike information.
