  • At least 150 people filled the Rogue Valley Mall with the sounds of the Hallelujah Chorus from Handel's "Messiah" this afternoon in a flash mob organizers hope may become a holiday tradition.
It all began about a month ago, when Doug Kirkpatrick, a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church's choir in Medford, sent a blast-email about the idea to churches and choral groups from Ashland to Rogue River. With no rehearsal and only word-of-mouth and social media spreading the news, the flash mob materialized at 3 p.m. today in the center court of the Rogue Valley Mall.
Directing was Sean Warren, retired choral director for North Medford High School and former conductor of the Rogue Valley Chorale, Kirkpatrick says.
Singers came from a couple dozen churches and choral groups, he says.
"It surpassed my expectations," he says.
