Mima Ruth Michaelis passed away December 21, 2013 in Medford, Ore. due to complications following heart surgery. She was born September 29, 1936 in Sherman, Texas to William and Alice Mills. The family moved to Hilt, Calif. where Mima grew up with her two younger brothers.
Mima attended nursing school in San Francisco, Calif. and following an illness that kept her from school, met Clarence Mike Michaelis. They were married July 3, 1960 and she began the nomadic life of an Air Force wife. Mima and Mike had five children, Dacca, Catherine, Brian (deceased), Jay, and Wendy and were married until Mike's passing in 1994.
Mima enjoyed reading and never had enough time for it while raising her family. She also loved to sew and made clothing for her children. She taught her children and grandchildren to crochet and knit, cook, sew, and to be flexible in life. She liked nothing better than picking a tomato from her own garden. She had a soft spot for pets and would find a way to lend money to children and grandchildren in need. She was much-loved by every person she took in because of her kindness, patience and willingness to help. Family was important to her, and Mima kept in contact with extended family in California, Texas, Michigan, and Oklahoma.
She is survived by her brother, Fred Mills; sister-in-law, Sandy (Tom) Mills; children, Dacca Michaelis (Greg Coons) of Auburn, Wash., Catherine Michaelis (Bill Moody) of Shelton, Wash., Jay (Micah) Michaelis of Central Point, Ore., and Wendy (Mark) Daly of Jacksonville, Ore.; her grandchildren, Zachary and Jared Coons, Joshua Hills, Alicia, Christina, and Philippe Michaelis, and Emily, Rachel, and John Daly.
A funeral was held January 2, 2014. Please send donations to The American Cancer Society.
