Miles' climb to 1,000 coaching wins stalls with loss

KIRKLAND, Wash. — Northwest University stalled Danny Miles' march to 1,000 coaching victories, downing Oregon Tech 95-88 in double overtime in men's basketball Friday.

Miles, a Medford native and former Southern Oregon University three-sport standout, has 998 career wins. He's vying to become only the second coach at a four-year college to reach the 1,000 plateau.

The 68-year-old Miles is in his 43rd season with the Owls and trails only Harry Statham, who has 1,068 wins at NCAA Division II McKendree (Ill) University.

Oregon Tech visits Evergreen State tonight in Olympia, Wash. A victory would set Miles up with an opportunity to win his 1,000th game at his alma mater when the Owls visit sixth-ranked Southern Oregon next Saturday.
