GP boys cruise past Crater

GRANTS PASS — Grants Pass senior guard Brian Luther scored 17 points and the Cavemen used tight defensive pressure to register their second straight SOH boys basketball victory with a 52-40 win over Crater on Friday.

Micah Johnson, a senior forward, added nine points and 10 rebounds for Grants Pass (11-1, 2-0 SOH), which led 28-17 by halftime and closed the game out strong.

Sophomore forward Jacob Hintemeyer paced Crater (4-8, 0-2) with 17 points and six rebounds.

Connor Lane chipped in eight points to go with seven rebounds and guard Dylan Morgan had four steals and four assists for the Comets.

Grants Pass outrebounded Crater, 34-28.

Jack Mitchell scored 13 points and Jesse Hilyard turned in 12 points and 12 rebounds against the Knights (6-4, 1-1 Sky).

Michael Gambee scored 16 points, Connor Vinyard 14 and Kade Benton 10 against Lost River (4-10).

Danny Perston chipped in 12 points and Rio Lopez 10 for the Chieftains (10-3), who outrebounded Bonanza, 45-26.

Cole McFetridge added eight points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals, Connor Strickland seven points and 12 rebounds and Chris Campbell six points and nine assists with no turnovers against Bonanza (8-6).

LAKEVIEW 72, ILLINOIS VALLEY 54 — At Cave Junction, Illinois Valley, which was without four players, couldn't keep up with hot-shooting Lakeview in the Southern Cascade Hybrid opener.

Zach Welch led all scorers with 17 points and had five steals for the Cougars (2-8, 0-1 SCH), who recently had three players suspended. Their other missing piece was out with a concussion.

The Cougars' Kade Doyle provided 11 points and eight rebounds, and point guard Mike Weaver handed out seven assist to go with six points.

For the Honkers (3-7, 1-0 SCH), Charles Harms drilled five of his team's 10 3-pointers. Both he and Landen Lampman scored 15 points. Logan Staub added 11 points and Lane Hadley 10.

Givens compiled 21 points, 14 rebounds and five steals, Emmitt Bateman scored nine points and Alex Cool-Hunsaker added six points and seven boards for the Loggers (6-5, 2-0 MVL), who earned a 40-27 advantage on the glass.
